I need more advice about staying on my part while singing with the app.
If you keep losing your part when the other voices are singing, try this method:

1. Sing with the guide vocal and music track only until you know your part.
2. Sing your part with just the music track, without the guide vocal playing.
3. While singing your part, add just one voice in at half volume --a lower voice if possible. Concentrate on the music track and your part, then listen to the other voice as well. guide vocal if you need help, but eventually you should sing your part without it playing.
4. Increase the volume of the other voice.
5. When you can stay on your part with confidence, add another voice at half volume.
6. When you are singing 3-part harmony you can increase the volume of the third voice, and add the fourth voice.

I can't hold a tune at all, much less a harmony part, will this help me?
You need to be able to hold a melody before you can successfully sing in harmony. Use the step-by-step method described above, and stay with step #1 until you are solid on your part. Learning some basic voice technique can also strengthen your ability to stay in tune. To do that, check out The No Scales, Just Songs Vocal Workout.

What are parallel harmonies?
Parallel harmonies are the most common kind of harmony you'll hear in contemporary music. Parallel harmony is when one or more voices follow the general shape of the melody but stay above or below the melody.

I want to learn how to come up with my own harmony vocal parts, that is, how to harmonize by ear.
Check out Harmony Singing by Ear: it's a step-by-step method that thousands have used to learn how to sing harmony by ear. It covers all of the singing harmony basics. The instructions for finding harmonies for Lean On Me, Teach Your Children, Proud Mary, and Drive My Car are on the follow-up 3-CD set More Harmony Singing by Ear. What are the differences between the Sing Harmonies iPhone App and Harmony Singing By Ear?
The Sing Harmonies iPhone App and Harmony Singing by Ear are complimentary learning tools with some notable differences. The Sing Harmonies app helps you learn to sing vocal harmony by playing and muting individual voices while playing 4-part vocal arrangements of songs. Since you can mix which vocals are audible, it's an invaluable tool for strengthening your harmonizing skills. Harmony Singing by Ear teaches you how to harmonize on your own as well as teaching you the harmony parts for several songs. So the Sing Harmonies app teaches you harmony parts, and Harmony Singing by Ear teaches you harmony parts AND how to find your own harmony parts.

Everytime I try to harmonize I end up singing someone else's part. Will the app help me?
Yes--because you can mute the other voices until you have your part down, and then add just one part at a time at half volume. Read the answer to Question #1 for more information.

I've learned one of the harmony parts and now I want to polish it so it works well with the other voices.
1. Make sure you are in tune by recording yourself singing with the app. It's often easier to hear any pitch problems on a recorded version than when singing live. If you are "pitchy", sing with the guide vocal more until you are more solid.
2. Listen for when the singers begin and cut of their notes and match them.

A longer track about polishing your harmony part is included on Harmony Singing by Ear. You can find and purchase just that track for .99 by searching 'polishing your harmony part' on iTunes.

Where can I find lyrics and/or sheet music for the songs on Sing Harmonies? Why aren't the lyrics included?
To find song lyrics, put the song title + lyrics into Google and several sites will come up where the lyrics are posted. We can't legally provide the lyrics without paying an additional licensing fee, which would raise the price of each song substantially. That's also why we can't provide sheet music for the arrangements. Sorry for the inconvenience.

My friends and I have learned the harmonies and want to record ourselves with the track. Where can we purchase an mp3 of just the track?
Music-only tracks for some of the songs are available on iTunes. Do a search on Itunes for "Music-Only Track: Lean On Me", "Music-Only Track: Proud Mary", "Music-Only Track: Drive My Car", or "Music-Only Track: Teach Your Children"". You can purchase any of those tracks for 99 cents. At some point in the future music-only tracks for the other songs will be added to iTunes as well.

Will there be more songs added to Sing Harmonies? How can I request a song to be on Sing Harmonies?
We plan to continue adding songs to Sing Harmonies. If you would like to request a song to be included please contact us. We keep all suggestions on file and review them whenever we are adding more songs.

I've requested several songs, why haven't they been added to Sing Harmonies?
There are several possible reasons your song hasn't been added yet. We receive thousands of song suggestions each year, and we can't add every suggested song since we must produce the tracks and record the vocals for each one. We must obtain a license for each song, and we haven't been able to get a license for every song we'd like to add. Also, some of the requested songs aren't good candidates for 4-part harmony. In addition, some songs are only requested once. We try to add songs that have had several requests and that work well in 4-part harmony.
